Forest and Bird Te Rere Penguin Count

Full day penguin count at Te Rere Yellow-eyed penguin Reserve in the Catlins. Two groups of penguin counters required to cover from 10am to dark. No experience required, training given on site. This trip is one of four visits a year to the Te Rere Penguin Reserve with Southland Branch members, access at other times restricted. Southland Ecological Restoration Network (SERN) is a network of Southland people "bringing back the natives". The aim is to promote the restoration of native ecological sites in Southland. This is achieved through the SERN website which promotes restoration projects, with contact information and highlighting restoration techniques through photos. There is also at least one field day a year to bring people involved in restoration together, to encourage and share knowledge and also celebrate all the good work going on around Southland. SERN openly invites volunteers to approach restoration project contacts if they wish to lend a hand.
